Michigan In the Civil War

Block Read More:
Yes

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.  Michigan was one of the first states to respond to the "battle cry of freedom".  Governor Blair called for volunteers and many from the Bloomfield area responded.  89,000 Michiganders fought to maintain the Union.

Bloomfield Historical Society members Al and Dave Eicher, noted documentary filmmakers, will share the stories of  Michigan men and women who fought to defend freedom and the families and communities throughout the state who supported their efforts on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 3:00pm at the Library.    Sponsored by the Bloomfield Historical Society and the Library, this free program is open to everyone and promises to be an ideal introduction to what it meant to be a Michigander during those four historic years!
