Online Databases - Alphabetical



		Ebooks, or electronic books, are full text titles of published books available through the Internet. The Library purchases ebooks from two different vendors, OverDrive (Metro Net Online Lending Library) and NetLibrary. The following chart compares the offerings from the two services.

Who’s eligible to use?	BTPL patrons with a valid library card—no other account needed.	Anyone with a free NetLibrary account created at a library computer may check out these ebooks. Create a free account at home!
What’s available?	Over 400 unabridged classic and current fiction and nonfiction for adults, young adults and children	Over 12,000 classic fiction and nonfiction titles, including computer guides.

Download or read online?	Download—after connecting briefly to the internet at home.	Read online only—requires internet connection at home or in the library
Checkout required?	Yes. Check out for 21 days. May be “returned” early.	Login to your NetLibrary account and read online--no checkout required.
Hardware required	Windows or Macintosh computer. Also may download to PDAs such as Pocket PC and Palm	A computer connected to the internet—no downloading possible
