Celebrating 50 years!
In October, 2014, Bloomfield Township Public Library will celebrate a milestone in its history — 50 years of serving the community! Since opening its doors on October 20, 1964, the library has become a cornerstone in Bloomfield Township. The library has grown from a print collection in the 1960s to a state of the art facility today, thanks to the strong support of the Bloomfield Township residents. To celebrate this special anniversary, a year full of activities, events and displays is being planned.
Join us as we kick off our yearlong 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, January 25. A variety of family friendly activities will be available for everyone to enjoy. In honor of the library’s opening in 1964, our day-long celebration will have a 1960s theme and is called “Feeling Groovy”. Starting at 1:00 p.m., stop by and get your face painted. Have your photo taken in a photo booth with 1960s props. Enjoy some karaoke of sixties songs. Remember the Twist? Join us for a dance lesson. Be part of a “Where the Wild Things Are” wild rumpus featuring various crafts. To end the day-long celebration, the Beatles tribute band, Toppermost, will perform at 7:30 p.m. that evening. No registration is required for any event. We invite all of you to be a part of our nostalgia as we look back at the very first years of Bloomfield Township Public Library!
SAVE THE DATE of October 18, 2014 for “A Night at the Library”, a gala evening concluding our yearlong anniversary celebration. Enjoy an evening of entertainment, food and more! Further details and ticket information will be available soon.

“Quite the Pet of Cranbrook”: James Scripps Booth and the Early Car
Stop by the Cranbrook Museum of Art on Sunday, January 26 at 4 p.m., to learn more about James Scripps Booth, son of Cranbrook founders George and Ellen. From electric doors to the rear-mounted spare tire, James Scripps Booth was decades ahead of his time, designing and developing innovations that still impact us today. Held at the DeSalle Auditorium – check out a Cranbrook pass at the library for free admission to this event.
Ongoing programs, such as writers' groups, our Knit 'n Stitch circle, book clubs, and Coffee and Conversation for seniors are offered every month. For a complete program schedule and more information visit our website.
