Now Accepting Applications for Myers Scholarship
Applications for the Jeanette P. Myers Memorial Scholarship are now being accepted through Friday, June 1, 2012!
The Myers Memorial Scholarship provides funds to encourage and support the post-secondary education of past or present employees of Bloomfield Township Public Library, or persons who have some relationship with the Library. A total amount of at least $500 will be rewarded to one or more scholarship applicants to use for books, tuition or other relevant expenses to assist in working toward an associate, bachelor, or graduate degree, or for pursuit of other higher education.
Scholarship guidelines and application forms are available at the Library’s Welcome Desk and on the Library website.
Grab a Book and Pick a Park!
The popular Park & Read passes are now available at Bloomfield Township Public Library through October 1, 2012. A pass entitles you to one free entrance into a Michigan State Park or Recreation area for the day. Many parks even have a hammock available for you to borrow too!
So, visit the library, use your Bloomfield Township Public Library card to borrow a book and a Park and Read pass. Then enjoy a relaxing day of reading in Michigan’s great outdoors!
Park and Read is a joint venture of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Macy’s, The Hammock Company and the Library of Michigan.

The Stars will come out for the Summer Reading Program for Adults and Teens!
Between June 8 and August 11, see stars at our Cranbrook Planetarium Event and during our weekly movie screenings. Be the star in our special after-hours mystery event for teens. Meet a writing superstar when Elmore Leonard visits the Library. Register online or at the Adult Services Desk and Be a Star @ Your Library!
See Stars @ the Cranbrook Planetarium—SpacePark360 Saturday, June 16 at 10a.m. SpacePark360 is a 38 minute, 9-ride show that takes audiences on a wild immersive ride through the solar system. It is designed to recreate the experience of amusement park thrill rides - roller coasters, pendulums, inverters and more.This program is to be held at the Cranbrook Planetarium. Admission is free and admittance to the Museum is also included. Registration is required. Program is open to Bloomfield Township residents only. Recommended for ages 5 to 105. Up to 4 tickets will be available per library card.
Ikebana Flower Arranging
On Saturday, June 2 from 10-11:30a.m.,Toshi Shimoura, Professor of Ikenobo Ikebana, returns with her demonstration of the art of Ikebana flower arranging.
Our regular monthly programs which include Coffee and Conversations, Tuesdays at the Movies, and Writers’ Rendezvous has been expanded to include a Wednesday Be a Star Movie Matinee!
Read books, come to programs, and discover a world of fun and imagination during the Family Summer Reading Program, “Dream Big Read!” for Youth.
Register between June 11 – August 11, and pick up your reading game sheet in Youth Services. Read stories and “dream big”. Enter weekly drawings and win fun prizes. Reach your personal reading goal and enter a drawing for a terrific grand prize. This reading program is open to any interested young person. Register for specific programs online at www.btpl.org.

What’s Your Dream?
Do you dream of being a farmer? A Scientist? How about a Superhero? Each week this summer we will be featuring a new theme for our Dream Big: Read! Summer Reading Program. The month of June, will bring a barnyard visit from Bowers School Farm, Campfire Tales, and the ever popular Lego Club.
This month the Library is offering a variety of hands-on computer classes, from Computer Basics and Facebook for Seniors to Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
