Memoir Writers' Group

2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 1 - 3 pm
Open to everyone  - visitors welcome!  If you wish to become a regular and receive meeting reminders,  please register online or by calling 248-642-5800, ext. 171.
The Memoir Writers' Group is an informal group that meets to share individual experiences which have left impressions on our lives and our minds.  Listening to others' stories often stimulates our own thinking about our life stories.  You do not need to attend each time or bring material - just come and get familiar with the idea, and maybe pick up some tips for creative life writing from the others.
If you wish, you can bring up to 4 pages of your work to share with others. Please bring 6 copies to pass around

Writers' Rendezvous

2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month, 7:00 - 8:30 pm (group does not meet in July and August)
No registration required.

Writers' Rendezvous is a worshop for fiction and nonfiction writers. The purpose of the group is to provide writers with editorial assistance with their material, the writing process, and suggestions on how to get published.
Writers are encouraged to bring 6 copies of a selected piece of writing that they would like to present to the group. The material can be either a completed story, a chapter from a book or a work in progress.

Page count should be limited to 6 pages double spaced using size 12 font.  In the case of book chapter or a completed short story, with a larger page count, accommodations will be made, time permitting, to work the material into the session. The maximum length is 3,000 words or 12 pages.

In the case of a novel, a brief one-page synopsis should be prepared for distribution to the members in attendance so that they can quickly be brought up to date on the genre, plot and characters.

Time is allocated so that each writer has an opportunity to read his/her material and receive editorial comments. In the event that there is more material to read than time available, the members not able to read will be scheduled first at the next meeting.

Writers are encouraged to be honest in their comments on both the strengths of the work and suggestions on how the story might be improved. These comments should also be noted on the actual copy of the material so that the writer will have notes to refer back to in the revision process.

If interested, a writer can ask another in the group to read his/her story. This approach will provide the writer with a unique perspective on the work.
