Sit & Stitch group creates quilt

In October , 2008, Bloomfield Township Public Library's Sit & Stitch Quilting Circle began meeting on the third Wednesday of each month to work on a Community Quilt for a local member of the military. The Circle finished its work on the quilt in April, 2010.
Work on the quilt began when the employees of the Library held a jean drive to collect materials for the quilt. Participants in the Circle cut the jeans into four inch sqares. The Sisters of the Church of Christ Latter Day Saints, the Walled Lake Ward, and Library employees Karrie Yukon and Andrea Aragona stitched the squares into panels.
While the panels were in their beginning stages, over 50 community members and library staff decorated the panels using permanent markers and applique as part of the Library's 2009 Summer Reading Program. Heartfelt patriotic messages and pictures comprise the decorations.
Several members of the Sit & Stich Quilting Circle offered expert advice about how to assemble the quilt. The final design separates the panels into four areas that highlight the unique patriotic artwork.
