| 2006 Jeanette P. Myers Scholarship Awarded
The Jeanette P. Myers Memorial Scholarship Awarded to Jessica Aragona. This annual award is funded by the Jeanette P. Myers Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund of the Bloomfield Township Public Library held at the Community Foundation for Southeastern Michigan. This year's recipient, Jessica Aragona, is a fourth-year student at Michigan State University studying teaching. "Aragona's outstanding essay about the value of teaching young people was by far the finest the committee [comprised of two members of the Library's Board of Trustees and the Library Director] had occasion to read," commented Library Trustee Isabelle Charnov. An essay, simple application, and some connection to the library, as community resident, current or former employee, volunteer, or family relative of staff, is needed to apply for the $500 award. The family of Jeanette P. Myers was on hand to award the scholarships. The Library Trustees commended the selection committee on the difficult choices each year among scholarship applicants. Each applicant is required to provide a brief essay of educational, personal, or professional goals, in addition to supplying their educational history, relationship to BTPL, and the intended use of scholarship. |
