SERVICES TO PERSONS WITH LOW VISION
- Our Optelec Spectrum Magnifying Reader allows persons with low vision to magnify printed and handwritten materials for easier reading.
- The Adult Services department has a Screen Magnifier software program that enlarges the computer screen allowing easier view of the library catalog and the Internet.
- Handheld magnifiers are available for use in the library from the Adult Services desk.
- Large Print books are available in the Adult Services and Youth Services collections. The Youth Room also has a collection of Braille books
. The library also subscribes to The New York Times Large Type Weekly.
- Both Adult and Youth Services have a vast selection of Books on Tape and Recorded Music in the Audio Visual Room.
SERVICES TO PERSONS WITH LOW HEARING
A
Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TDD or TTY) is available for questions and book requests from hearing impaired library users. Call 248-642-5939 during library hours.
- The Pocket Talker located in the Youth Services Room, amplifies the sound produced by the CD-ROMs for use on the educational computers.
- Closed captioned videos in the Audio Visual Room are clearly labeled on the spine of the video cases.
- A personal amplification system can be used during programs held in the Community Room here at the library. Please call Administrative
Services at least five business days before the program and reserve it for your use. Call 248-642-5800 ext. 120.
SERVICES TO PERSONS WITH MOBILITY DISABILITIES
A Motorized scooter, wheelchair and walker
with an attached bag for carrying library materials are available at the Reception Desk.
- Health Newsletters from Tufts University and Harvard are located on Index Table 1 in Adult Services. Adult Services librarians can provide further information.
- Helpful information about the Americans with Disabilities Act is found in the Adult Services Reference Section, call number 346.7301.
SERVICES TO PERSONS UNABLE TO VISIT THE LIBRARY DUE TO DISABILITIES
- Books for persons restricted to home indefinitely or temporarily, are available by calling the Adult Services staff at 248-642-5800. (Offered
in cooperation with Baldwin Public Library).
- Collections of books for persons confined to nursing homes or in assisted living facilities are delivered by volunteers of the Bloomfield
Township Public Library. Call the BTPL Adult Services staff at 248-642-5800.
- Thousands of cassette books on tape and descriptive videos (videos with audio captions which describe the action of the movie) are
available from the Oakland County Library for the Visually and Physically Impaired. Forms
for this free program are available at the Adult Services desk.
