Wouldn't it be great if the library notified you of the arrival of new books or videos that might interest you
Wouldn't it be convenient to be able to place holds on titles as soon as they arrive at the library (Except rentals and feature videos and DVDs, of course).
Would you like to get a personalized list of new arrivals to look over, every week
Try our new E-mail Alerts!
E-mail Alerts are our new personalized order notification system. Each week, we will query our database and send you an e-mail notification of new arrivals at the library that match
your criteria. All you have to do is set up a preferred search in your library account, and mark it to get an "e-mail alert" message when new books, CDs, Videos, CD-ROMs and DVDs are
ordered that match your search criteria.
How do I sign up? Sign on to your library account by clicking on "View Your Record" at www.btpl.org, and set up
a preferred search. To set up a preferred search for your favorite author or subject, click on "Search the Catalog" from your account, and enter your search. Click on "save search
" when you get results you like. Click on "Patron Record" to go back to your patron account, click on the new "preferred searches" button, then check the "e-mail
" box next to the search you just created. Click "Update List" save to trigger the weekly query to search for new orders that match your search.
What are the categories? Any subject, author, title or call number that you can think of! You can even change the
"search in" box to limit the search to the Adult Services, Youth or AV collections. Use Call number searches to search for FICTION, LARGE PRINT, AUDIO BOOK, VIDEO, VIDEO/DVD,
CHILD CD, CHILD VIDEO and so on. (NOTE: You cannot receive e-mail alerts for keyword searches). Ask a librarian if you need more help setting up your preferred searches.
How will you notify me? And how often? The system will query the database weekly, and we'll send you an e-mail with any new
orders that match your searches. The e-mail will arrive on Mondays with your personalized list.
How many titles will I receive? That all depends on how specific or general you set up your preferred searches. If you set
up the alert as a call number search for fiction, be prepared for a long e-mail list. If you set up a search for a less than prolific author, you may only get an e-mail alert once a year.
How many E-mail Alerts can I get? You can get up to 20 alerts, based on 20 different preferred searches.
Are all these items currently on shelf? Not yet. You'll receive the e-mail alert when the library first receiveds a title, before it has
been processed. At that time, you can be the first to place a hold on the title, so that the item will be set aside for you when it is finished processing.
Why do I receive E-mail Alerts for titles that were published a long time ago? The alerts are triggered by the date the items arrive at the library, not when they were
published. We order older material for several reasons -- to replace lost, damaged or stolen items, or because of renewed interest in older items.
What if I want to pick different E-mail Alert searches? No problem! Simply update your searches by logging into your library account with your
name and your library barcode. You can create new searches (up to 20) and delete old searches at any time.
How do I stop getting E-mail Alerts? Simply log into your library account via "View Your Record", and remove the "e-mail" check
next to your preferred searches, or delete your preferred searches altogether.
You aren't going to sell my e-mail address, are you? Absolutely not! Your e-mail address and profile are strictly confidential. Read our Privacy Policy for more information.
