Q: When was this library built? A: The Bloomfield Township Public Library's first construction was completed in 1968. This provided the library with three architectural pavilion areas. Adult Services was located in the front of the building where Youth is now; Youth Services was located in the rear of the building. Q: BTPL has changed a lot since then! What went into deciding to expand? A. The Bloomfield Township community has grown from a mostly rural area to a haven of residences and "green" areas. In 1988, in response to this growth and the need to provide more materials and services, the library doubled its size. This resulted in the "flip-flop" of those two public service areas, as well as the addition of the community room and meeting rooms. The most recent construction-the addition of about 600 square feet on the west side of the building-was completed in the spring of 2000 and is used to provide needed work space. Q: It still seems so crowded in some areas-especially the AV room. What's being done about that? A: The library Board of Trustees has begun a Needs Assessment and Space Planning Study. We need your ideas about what should be done to improve this library's service to you. If you think the AV room is not big enough, or the computers aren't fast enough, or there aren't enough programs, books, comfortable seats, places to plug in your lap-top-whatever it is that you think we need to provide for you or whatever it is you think we're doing really well-we want to hear from you.
